What the tradition asks of a Durga Saptashati Path date
The Saptashati belongs to the two Navratris — Chaitra in the spring and Sharad in the autumn — and to Ashtami and Navami within them. Outside those, named chapters are read at a household's own occasions rather than the full seven hundred verses.
A full path runs three to four hours in one sitting; the navaha spreads it over the nine days and is nine appointments rather than one. Both are observances, so Chaturmas does not close them: Sharad Navratri begins the day Pitru Paksha ends.
Both Navratris concentrate almost every booking of this rite into eighteen days of the year, and Ashtami and Navami carry the bulk of those. A full path on either of those two days is arranged weeks ahead.
