About Badi Patan Devi
Badi Patan Devi is one of the two Patan Devi shrines that give Patna its name in local tradition, and it is counted among the Shakti Peethas. The image is of three goddesses together — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati — worshipped in one sanctum, which is unusual enough that it is what most visitors come to see.
The temple sits in the old city at Maharajganj, in lanes that predate the modern street plan entirely. It fills through both Navratris, and the Ashtami here is one of the larger gatherings in the city.
The approach is on foot through Maharajganj's lanes; there is no vehicle access to the door and the last stretch is a market. Households in the old city keep their mundan and first-rice visits here, and those are arranged for the early morning before the lanes fill.
