About Kashi Vishwanath
Kashi Vishwanath is the Jyotirlinga of Varanasi and the temple the whole city is arranged around. It has been destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly; the present temple was built in 1780 by Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, and the gold plating on its spires was given by Ranjit Singh in 1835.
The Corridor completed in 2021 opened a walled route from the Ganga at Lalita Ghat to the temple, which changed how the site is approached rather than what is done in it. The mangala aarti before dawn and the abhishekam through the day are the fixed points, and Mahashivratri is the night the temple stays open through.
The Corridor's entry gates are the practical detail: security is airport-style, phones are deposited, and the walk from Lalita Ghat is the shortest route in. Families arranging a rite around a darshan usually keep the two separate — the temple in the morning, the rite at their lodging or at the ghat afterwards.
