Remedial pujas (ग्रह शांति)
The rituals families keep for this occasion, and the order they are usually kept in.
3 pujas cover almost every booking for this occasion. Which ones you keep depends on your family's custom.
- Navagraha Shanti नवग्रह शांति — the puja of the nine planetary deities, in the traditional order
- Rudrabhishek रुद्राभिषेक — the abhishek of Shiva with the Rudram, kept in the Shaiva tradition
- Havan हवन — the fire offering, kept on its own or as part of a larger vidhi
What remedial asks of a family
The remedial rites are the propitiatory ones — the Navagraha Shanti, the graha-specific pujas, and the shanti rites kept at a birth, before a marriage or at the start of a dasha. The tradition describes them as propitiation and this site describes them the same way.
No page here will say that a ritual produces a worldly result. Not a recovery, not a job, not a marriage, not a visa. That is a rule the whole site is built on and it is enforced by a lint over every string we ship, and it applies most obviously to this occasion, which is where such a claim would be reached for.
What is real and worth saying is the shape of the rite. A Navagraha Shanti takes nine sets of grain, cloth, wood and mantra in the traditional order and closes with a havan; the japa count agreed at booking decides how long it runs. Families keep them because their custom does, and that is reason enough for a page to describe one.
