What the tradition asks of a Satyanarayan Katha date
The katha is kept on a purnima by preference — the full moon of any month — and that preference is strong enough that most bookings are made against it rather than against a calculated window. It is also kept at a house-warming, a wedding, a new job or the end of a journey, on whatever day those fall.
It is one of the few household rites the tradition does not hold back during Chaturmas, because it marks gratitude rather than a beginning. That is why it is the puja families reach for in months when nothing else can be kept.
Purnima bookings concentrate demand on twelve evenings a year, and the Kartika and Vaishakha full moons are the heaviest of them. Outside those, this is the easiest rite on the site to place at short notice.
