Darshan timings and how to reach, for every temple we have written a guide for — plus the pujas families keep near each one. Temples we have documented but not yet written up are listed below by name.

When Legship's temples were built

Kirateshwar Mahadev on the bank of the Rangit is among the oldest Hindu shrines in Sikkim, and its tradition is older than its fabric: the site is identified with the Kirata episode of the Mahabharata, in which Shiva appears to Arjuna as a hunter.

Hindu temple building in Sikkim is recent as a matter of record — the kingdom was Buddhist and its Nepali-speaking Hindu population settled largely in the nineteenth century — so a shrine of this antiquity is exceptional in the state rather than typical of it.

The temple directory for Legship is being compiled.
