What decides the cost of a Shraddh
A shraddh is two hours and its material is simple: rice, barley, black sesame, kusha and the food offered afterwards. What is quoted beyond the pandit is travel, because the rite is frequently kept on a riverbank rather than at the house.
What is different in Ranchi
Ranchi is compact and travel is rarely the largest line. What varies is the venue: the newer apartment blocks have nowhere to keep a havan, so fire rites move to a temple or a relative's house and pick up the travel or the temple charge that goes with the move.
