What decides the cost of a Lakshmi Puja
The puja itself is an hour and a half, and the samagri is modest. What moves the quote is the date: it falls on the Diwali amavasya, every household in the city wants the same evening muhurat, and a pandit can keep two or three bookings in a night rather than a day's worth. Booking early is what changes what is available, not what is charged.
What is different in Gaya
Through Pitru Paksha the town's pandits are committed to the ancestral rites for the fortnight, so a domestic booking in that window is competing with the busiest two weeks of the local year. Outside it, travel within Gaya is short and the samagri sold around Vishnupad and the ghats is the cheapest on this list.
