What decides the cost of a Navagraha Shanti
The nine grahas each take their own grain, cloth, wood and japa count, which makes this the longest samagri list of any household puja here — nine of most things rather than one. The japa count agreed at booking is what decides the length and therefore the quote.
What is different in Varanasi
The city's temple rites are fitted between fixed aartis, and where a rite is kept at a temple the temple's charge is its own and is shown as a separate line. The lanes mean the last stretch to most addresses is walked, which is a time cost for the pandit rather than a distance one, and it is why the bands here read differently from a city with roads to the door.
