About Mangla Gauri Temple
Mangla Gauri sits on a hill above Gaya and is counted among the Shakti Peethas. The worship here is of the goddess in her breast-form, and the sanctum's stone is ancient — inscriptions on the site have been read as fifteenth-century, over something older still.
It is one of the stations on the Gaya shraddha circuit as well as a Shakta shrine in its own right, so the fortnight of Pitru Paksha and the two Navratris are both busy. The climb is a flight of stone steps from the road below.
The climb is a flight of stone steps from the road, and there is no other way up. Families combining the shrine with the Gaya shraddha circuit usually take it first, early, because the fortnight's queues at Vishnupad run into the afternoon.
