About Rajgir Brahmakund
Brahmakund is the hottest of the Rajgir hot springs, on the slope of Vaibhava hill, and the bathing there is a rite rather than a facility — the water is led through stone spouts into tanks and the shrine to Shiva stands beside them.
Rajgir was Rajagriha, the capital of Magadha, and the springs are described in accounts of it going back to the Mahabharata and to the Buddhist canon alike. The Malamas fair, kept in the intercalary month, is when the site is fullest.
The kunds are reached by a stepped path from the road at the foot of Vaibhava hill, and the bathing tanks are separate for men and women. The water is genuinely hot — around forty-five degrees at the spouts — and the visit is usually kept short.
