About Aranya Devi Temple
Aranya Devi is the presiding goddess of Ara, and the town's name is usually derived from hers. The temple is in the middle of the old town, and the two images in the sanctum are worshipped as sisters.
The tradition attached to the site places it in the Mahabharata, in the forest the Pandavas passed through, which is where the name Aranya comes from. Navratri is the temple's principal season and the lanes around it are closed to traffic for it.
The temple is in the middle of Ara and is reached on foot from the main road. Its compound is small, so a family rite is arranged at home and the temple visit kept as the first errand of the day.
